Re: Interplanetary Lexicon Project
On: 11.11.1011 (CCT)
Dear Scholars,
We have a mission, if you choose to accept it. After Earth was destroyed, the Empire became fragmented and we found ourselves scattered throughout the planets. We have finally begun to restore contact, and we're asking you, our most educated and anthropologically inclined to research these recovered societies and submit the information you receive to the Allied Empire Central Command (AECC) for processing.
The dangers will be great, the pay low, and the chance for immortality absolute. We of the AECC do not know what to expect from these societies; hostility seems likely. By choosing to pursue these goals, you agree that you will not hold the AECC responsibility for any injuries or damages to person or property, or death.
Should you choose to accept this mission, we will pay you 1,500AED (Allied Empire Dollars) per submitted article. All copy- and publishing- rights will then belong to the AECC, though the Author will recieve credit for their work. You will have one week in which to work on each article, starting at the beginning of the classic 26-letter alphabet and moving through toward the end.
Sincerely,
Frederick Jorge Andersson Gonzales Lee IIV
Lord Emperor of the Allied Empire Central Command
Explanation for Civilians
The Interplanetary Lexicon Project is inspired by the Lexicon Role Playing Game, a clever diversion that we decided to attempt. The rules are simple, and can be outlined simply:
- Every article must proceed in alphabetical order from the previous article written.
- Each article must reference three other articles; one that has already been written (by another author), and two that have not (called "phantom articles").
- No author may reference their own articles, this is about scholarly integrity, after all.
- This is a turn-based system, and turns rotate through the authors.
- Each author has up to three days in which to write and submit their article. Failure to fit submissions within this timeline is a forfeiture of turn.
- Articles should be between 100 and 500 words and must make appropriate references.
- Once stated in an article, everything is to be regarded as fact. Facts may not be denied, but they can be interpreted from varying angles.
- The first person on any letter must create a phantom article if one has been named for that letter.
- There is no set number of articles per letter before moving on; anyone may arbitrarily move to the next letter, nobody may move back a letter.
- The start date is (hopefully) November 17, 2007.
